A: The worst danger on a boat is fire. Rooster (the cook, coq) could do the kitchen in calm weather. Bad weather would turn off his stove.

Disease was also dangerous because it could soon shrink a boat into a small space.

Other dangers came from external phenomena: storms, calm (exhausted food supplies), enemy ships...
